80w90 and 85w140 are both thinner than 90w when cold. The higher figure in 85w140 means it preformes ( maintaines viscosity ) as a 140 oil when hot. If you want to use a multigrade oil , I recomend 90w < ## If Your te37 has Limited slip diff youll need an oil With slip (lsd) additives Got a link to ...

Id use a synthetic GL4 oil 75w-90 drive it and see if shifts improve. Mine did. Was a bit cranky when cold at first

but fine after about 1000km . Not as smooth to get in reverse as the newer style due to the "lift for R" but shifts fine now

Did forkshafts slide smoothly ? could they have been bent ? stick?

What oil are you using ? Is it just when its Cold or warm also ? have you driven it for a while ?
