Re: Noisy tranny (t50) FOUND IT (the problem)
Jeff at Toyz Unlimited gave me a tip to use a vice grip type c-clamp to put stress on the bearings. Sure enough the input shaft front bearing (not pilot) got rough to spin with little pressure. Now to find the bearing......it looks like Nachi 308c87s13n is stamped on it. I can't find anything to cro...

Re: Noisy tranny (t50)
I wish I did record the noise while driving. Whining / rumbling can be subjective. To me, whining is higher pitch and rumbling is lower pitch. My noise is kind of in the middle.
What puzzles me is why there isn't any noise when driving in 4th gear.

Re: TE72 rearend ratio? UPDATE
I'm not in the ball park. Driving around 40mph the speedometer reads around 50, at around 70mph speedometer reads around 85. The tranny was getting noisy in all but direct drive so I took it apart but didn't find any problems. While it's apart I would like to find a 3.9 speedometer gear set for a t5...

Re: Noisy tranny (t50)
I wasn't sure if the Clutch Release Bearing would be spinning when not used. The more I think about it the ONLY bearing not spinning in 4th (direct drive) is the 12 roller bearings coupling the input shaft to the main shaft. Upon inspection I can't see anything worn, scratched, or scored. No metal d...

Noisy tranny (t50)
Anyone know why my transmission makes noise in all gears except 4th (direct drive)? Seems noisyest in 5th gear, Also a little noisy idling in neutral and quiets with the clutch pushed in. Pilot bearing looks good Clutch Release Bearing seems noisy when spinning free, but should it spin while driving...

Re: T50 tail shaft question
Yes I did it to make the shifter 4" more forward. You have to change the shift rods and speedometer gear also.

Re: TE72 rearend ratio?
Fantastic chart, I couldn't find any info on this.
I took a picture of the donor plate and it's S374 = 3.58
Doing tire searches the corolla comes up 155/80/13 = 22.8" dia.
185/70/13 = 23.2" dia. so I should be in the ball park.
A GPS will tell true!
Thanks, much appreciated.

TE72 rearend ratio?
What is the rearend ratio of a TE72L? A donor car for the 3TC & W50 going into a '61 Sunbeam Alpine. I modified the speedometer cable to fit the alpine. Alpines end is thicker. The tires are about the same (185/70/13), The Sunbeam ratio is 3.89/1. Depending on the donor's ratio, I'll be able to ...

Re: ignition coil pack wiring info needed for rpm tac
There are 2 types of tacs - Voltage & Current. I spent weeks trying to figure out how to wire a '62 Alpine (current) tac to a 3tc engine & igniter. The Alpine info says key sw. B+ thru a loop outside the tac to the coil +. Surely that wouldn't work according to all the Toyota info. But it do...

Re: Full Wiring Diagrams
The tach is labled neg. ground, and the 3tc is neg gnd. No problem there.
I finally got it working by reversing the coil wires on the tach loop. Key sw B+ to tach loop to igniter/coil+.
I always try to make something easy more difficult.
Thanks for everyone's help
