Ryan's TE31

Post by skellington »

I purchased this TE31 about a year ago. It is a 1976 deluxe edition which has a 2tc with a 3 speed auto in it. It has 38k (non rolled over?) miles. Here it is after making the 230 mile trip home with no mojor problems.

I cleaned up the car and buffed the paint a little, but I think its too far gone. It actually looks better in the pics. It runs like crap due to vaccume leaks, timing set at nearly 50 degrees advanced, and all kinds of stuff the PO messed with. Cleaning Pics:

I dug into the engine. I wanted to make the original 2tc run as best I could make it. Looking at the insides made me think, the miles must have flipped over. adjusting valves:

Rebuild of asian carb:

New exhaust piping, cat, and muffler to replace the swiss cheese that was there.

Found some rust:

Wire wheeled it and slowed it down:

I got the car running perfect... but was WAY too rich at high RPM to pass CA smog.

Figured heck with the stock carb when I found a smog legal weber on ebay for $120. It was new in the box from th 80s. No adapter though, and they dont make the adapter anymore.

Had to make me one of these:

Final product. Dont mind the failed prototype on the left.

Then had to make these because none of the stuff in the kit made since to me.

I decided to do a new timing chain set, waterpump, thermostat, and give everything a good cleaning.

This post brings me to current times. I have lots of stuff left to do. Lower, remove big dent, rear end ratio swap (has 4:10 now), interior seats... the list goes on.
