Hi I'm new here to 3tc garage. I want to upgrade to a 3tc engine in my Corolla. I assume the blocks are the same and will bolt right up to my auto trans ? The car I'm working on is my 76 Corolla wagon. Its got low compression in #3 cyl and adding a little oil had the compression jump up quite a bit. sounds like a cracked ring to me. The #3 plug gets all fouled up , where as the other plugs look great. I need another short block to install while I rebuild this one or get a 3tc to slid in. Does anybody have a line on where I can get a running engine? I'm in Albany Oregon. The car runs good otherwise. Jim

Hi there,

I did automatic 2tc to 3tc in my old 78 liftback. And ran a 2TC in my originally 3TC equipped 1980 liftback for several years. It should be a easy swap.
The engine blocks have the same mounting points, they just changed the shape of the engine mounts a couple times. As such for any engine you source you will need to use the engine mounts from your 2tc and the "wing" mounts that go from the engine block to the lower holes of transmission cross member. This will let you drop in the 3tc, everything will line up and go where it should. This swap is doable in a long day or easy going weekend if you know what you're doing.
I'd suggest going at it over a weekend, take the time to clean up and paint the engine mounts, clean the engine compartment, etc. Make it really worth your while!

Aside from that. You may also need to move the oil pressure and temp sending units from your 2tc to 3tc. But the holes are in the same places and same thread pitch.

If you have Facebook and can look at it, this rebuilt 2tc in Portland OR might be of interest to you: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 5408249299 I myself tend to be leery of rebuilt but "never ran" engines. I would check everything out before running it, and definitely pop the main bearing caps and put a fresh coat of assembly lube on everything. But it it's indeed in order you could make this a one and done engine swap.

This is in Salem and might also be interesting to you: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 7115434438
