SATURN (DELCO) ALT. UPGRADE INSTALL QUESTIONS???

Postby Whit on Sat Jun 20, 2009 12:55 pm

 I made my brackets and installed the 1993 satuen 96 amp internal regulator alternator into my 2tc.

 I hooked up the main power to it and unplugged the toyota external voltage regulater and the small 3 outlet plug from the 2tc alt.

 The satuen alt. has 2 wiress coming from it one for dash charge light and the other for a 12volt ignition source. they are labeled PL and FS
which is which and were on the toyota harness do i plug into :?:

 Do i hookup to the small 3 prong plug the plugged into the 2tc alt. or do I have to hookup the dash light and 12 volt sorce on the old external regulater plug?

Please post how it works. I need to do this swap with my 3TC- the radio goes out when the A/C is on and I turn on a blinker  Post pics and what tools/parts are needed. Sounds like a easy swap but I like to see pics :D

I WILL CHECK FOR YOU , IT JUST AS I STATED BEFORE I AM ILL AND THE HEAT ITS TAKING A TOLL ON MI THESE DAYS . YHE BOTTOM BRACKET OF THE TOYOTA DONT NEED TO BE MODIFIED , JUST THE TOP ONE . OR MAKE A TOP ADJUSTER BRACKET . YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE THREE SCREWS OF THE SATURN ALTERNATOR CASING TO ROTATE THE ADJUSTMENT ORIENTATION ( AND DRILL THAT HOLE THAT FOR ADJUSTER BECAUSE IT GOT THREADS) .THE WIRING IS SIMPLE , THICK WIRE FROM THE POST GOES TO THE BATTERY AND THEN THEY ARE TWO WIRES (BROWN AND BROWN WITH WHITE STRIPE) ONE OF THEM WILL BE CONNECTED TO A WIRE WITH POWER WHEN IGNITION ITS ON. YOU DISSCONECT THE REGULATOR BOX BEFORE ALL OF THIS AND YOU WILL HAVE A DIMM LIGHT IN THE CHARGE OR BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASH BOARD . I WILL RECOMEND TO HAVE A VOLTMETER INSTALLED TO MONITOR THE CHARGE . THERE IS A WAY TO REMOVE SOME DIODES TO GET RID OF THE BRAKE/ CHARGE LIGHT BUT I WILL NEED TO REVIEW IT BECAUSE I DIDNT NEED IT. WILL POST PICTURES LATER.

JUST CHECK , BROWN AND WHITE GOES TO THE IGNITION SIGNAL INPUT (IN THE TOYOTA WILL BE A BLACK WITH YELLOW STRIPE) AND THAT WILL SEND THE SIGNAL FOR THE ALT TO START WORKING.

CANT FIND OLD PICTURES AND ITS BEEN REALLY HOT OUTSIDE FOR ME (SORRY ABOUT THAT). BELIEVE ITS 96 - 97 AND ITS A REAL PAIN TO REMOVE IT FROM THE DONOR CAR BECAUSE IT SITS REALLY LOW. I TRY TO FIND ONE ON A PARTIALLY DISSASEMBLED ENGINE (EASIER ).ITS BEEN 103 -104 DEGREES AROUND HERE AND BECAUSE MY CONDITION ITS REALLY WEAKENING FOR ME . I WILL TRY TO GET PICTURES FROM MY OWN CAR OR GET PICTURES FROM AN SATURN REPAIR MANUAL.

That can also be caused if the check valve between your brake booster and intake manifold is going bad! The GM alternator upgrade is sweet though, I might have to try that whenever one of my stock ones pukes out :D.
