Why do this swap?
Having problems with dim lights, weak idle, or things shutting off?
Upgrade your amps form 55* to 95*
Eliminate External Regulator

Things you need:
Saturn Alt. from 4cyl. 94-97 ($30)
3TC Alt. Pulley
Grinder
Volt Meter!
basic tools and knowledge

Start with the SAturn Alt.
First you need to take the Saturn Pulley off to replace it with the 3tc pulley. but leave off the 3tc pulley for now
Image

After the above^^^ place your 3tc pulley on the saturn alt. keeping the saturn fan spacer.

get your bracket and grind her down!

then

grind a bit off the casing, not too much! its a thin case!

after

Image

when installing, your belt may go right on with no problem. i had a small belt, i needed to place it on all the pulleys before installing any mounts. what ever works for you.

this is how much adjustment you get from all the work yo have done! maybe more if you grind more and work harder at it. also Rooster_Cogburn says he drilled a new hole for better angle, i didnt.

it should look like this now

Image
Image

you can hook up your large thick wire that goes to the battery, just as you would on your regular ALT. its the single wire that is bolted to the casing.
Rooster_cogburn says to get a thicker wire or fusible link. i didnt.

the stock Saturn ALt. has 2 wires
the 3tc has 3
i used 2 from the 3tc

test the wires with the key in the "on" position and test the plug with a volt meter
you should get 2 of them with 12v
and 1 ground.

i tested the saturn alt. with both 12v connections and it worked.
the saturn striped wire goes to the 12v on 3tc
the solid goes to the ground on 3tc

eliminate the voltage regulator

I have a 82 SR5. my charge light came on after this swap. i need to figure out what i need to do to get it to work again.

if you don't mind, can ou take a picture of the pinouts on the alternator? i'm asking because i have the 90amp from the 1.9 and this one only has one wire on the connecter. but when i take the connector off, the alty has 4 pins and the one wire i have is comming from the pinout labelled (P)

hmm that's weird. well if i remember correctly there are more pins in the connector than there are wires. 2 wires on a 4 pin connector. you sure its not a faulty or damaged connector? did you disconnected and remove this yourself?

i will take a picture but i wont be home to do it until tomorrow night. if you want i live in wesley chapel you can come check it out this weekend. come see my new liftback too! lol
