Did you leave the ports little rough so mixture can atomize better :!:

This is an EFI head.... the fuel is added just above the valves... not in the carburetor, so on a injected 4AGE head you do NOT want them with a uniform textured surface. Now, if your intention is to run carbs, the last step I use would not be used, and there would be a light texture left behind to help with atomization.

BUT... the shape would be the same....... for example... note on the exhaust valves(view in above post). The valve on the right, at the right hand edge, you can see an example of a poorly cast port, the port wall is actually in the air stream.

On the intake view, look at the "ramp" heading down to the valve, the port has received a mild radius to remove the abrupt edge that the casting/machining line caused... as well as matching the bowl to the valve seat

Here is another view of the intake ports on a smallport head(different head from above)... note that I "open up" the port walls to expose the entire bowl to the port

Image

you can also see the seat mismatch to the bowl in the top view

Finally.... the exhaust port... a unique view... from outside the port, looking in, at a small angle, to focus on the exhaust port wall work, and comparing it, to an untouched port (hope that made sense....)

I've done this polishing on the valve cover & wheel's and by the time you're done you can't bend you're finger's lol :D
a lil tip i learned long time ago if you use mother's rite after the piece turn's black ,,remove it with a rag damped in gasoline ;)
then hit it with toilet paper or the paper you find inside the shoe box ;)

While working in a classic Mercedes restoration shop, I found a product called Autosol that worked really well. Rather than being in a hard bar form, this stuff comes in a toothpaste tube and spreads real nicely. Get that on a cotton buffing wheel and things polish up so quick! It will leave a black residue, but that comes off easily with a clean, dry cloth. Softer is better. I use this myself, so i thought I‘d put it out there for you to try :D
