In the sport of drag racing, TOYOTA 2JZ-GTE is King of the Hill, but also 2JZ-GTE shifted the attention of many TOYOTA racers and took them away from 4 cylinder engines which had an impact on 3T-C development leaving 3S-GTE 2.0L and 3RZ-FE 2.7L as the face of TOYOTA 4 cylinder engines in drag racing.

A few years back from now development started on modern 4 cylinder TOYOTA engines has been done with impressive results. The engines of choice are TOYOTA 2.4L 2AZ-FE and 2.5L 2AR-FE with powerfull examples from Chris Rado's World Electronics / Descendant Racing and Stephan Papadakis at Papadakis Racing. Rado claims to have squeezed 1,400 HP out of a 2AZ on OEM engine block and cylinder liners and Papadakis has extracted 1,000 to 1,200 HP out of the 2AR-FE engines also on OEM engine block cast and cylinder liners (even with coolant difuser in). Tòo bad both are not into drag racing anymore and the performance of such powerfull modern TOYOTA 4 cylinder engines hasn't been showcased at the 1/4 mile racetracks (There was a 2AZ powered Pro-FWD Scion tC race car who hit 7.8s a few years ago - when 2AZ was on development stages (900 HP or less)-)

Stephan Papadakis has been making modified TOYOTA 2AR-FE engines since he went into the DRIFT SCENE many years ago (2010 or 2011)...He had quite a good success with that large TOYOTA 4 banger pushing it to the 1,200 HP on OEM engine block cast with no need for "block guards", "block griddle" or engine cement filling. 2AR-FE block is a solid compacted aluminum cast (the closest thing to a billet aluminum block) 2AR-FE block is stiffer and more solid than the 2RZ-FE and 3RZ-FE engine blocks, not to mention it is lightweight too. It will be a great 4 cylinder platform forTOYOTA drag racing scene.
