4 Speed Options?

Post by CelicaRA43 »

I was wondering if there are any good four speed transmission options for a 2/3tc powered car? I've got a '79 recently and want to do away with the t50 it has. Since most factory Toyota four speeds have similar gear ratios as the t50 with fourth being a 1:1 is there a cheap and substantially stronger options out there?

Well there's the T40. The T50 was just a T40 with a 5th gear tacked on, and some people argue that's why the T50 is rubbish (because it wasn't designed to be a 5 speed from the get-go). I can't say how much power you can push through a T40 though, never really messed with one. Most people go with W-series transmissions though if they're looking for something that can take alot of power reliably.

I was thinking about the w4x series, because I know of people using w58's and the like. How different are the bell housings? And what would I use for drive shaft or would one have to be made?
