3tc draw through turbo help needed

Post by TheChadCorolla »

Hi, I'm new to the site, and need help desperately with my 3tc. I'm from south africa, cape town to be exact. I'm 16, and belong to my dad's car club know as Spin Addicts. We do burnouts competitively around the country. I first ran a 3tc, with a ported head, 40's dellorto side draughts, 262 cam, with a 11mm lift, branches with a 50mm downpipe, 5 speed gearbox, and 4:11 rear diff ratio. You can see my little ke70 in action, being driven by my dad here; http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8usxAbirfQ4. That was a year or two ago. We are currently running a 3tc with the same setup, with a few changes done to it, such as a 288 cam was installed, and we fitted ITB's as well, which we manufactured ourselves using 42's weber side draughts, bmw 318i injectors and a custom fuel rail, also a verneer gear, and a dicktator management system. We did not get hp figures yet, but will keep you guys updated. We are now looking to go turbo, using a 38 weber carb, and we want to go the draw through route, to confuse the people  we want to know why the draw through system is not recommended, and how we can run it without hurting the engine. We do not want to boost over 0.8 bar, as burnout cars heat up very quickly, and we don't want to detonate the engine. Please help, as we would appreciate it very much, thanks

Welcome on 3tcgarage nice burnout video thanks for the share

Draw through : The problem is mostly the turbo charger those particular seals used in the common air compressors wheels are not design to run fuel/air true them. To make it work you will need an turbo charger capable of running fuel mixture true it like the VW.

Second you can't cool the charge air.

Using an fuel/air mixture intercooler would be lethal

Very nice man that car has some power!!

For the draw throught you will need a turbo that is made for the draw through caus a normal turbo doesnt have the carbon seal in it or buy a turbo then look for the carbon seal and put it in

But I prefer the blow through style just look for the holley blow through carb "demon" and a pressure regulator , I think it will be better!

Thanks for the good remarks, as well as the advice. My dad and I decided to go with the blow through system as it would cause less hassles. The blow through would also be a bit lighter on our pockets, cause we're on a budget :D. So the blow through doesn't necesarily push out more power right?

I think both of them push the same power , just there is one problem ! I heard allong time ago from someone who had the blow trough style on his car and he told me that when youre car is att idle or att low rpm you can overfloat the carb thats what he told me im not sure of that (correct me if that is not true)!

Only if you didn't have a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator...

Cheers,
