Hello. I swapped out the Fan Clutch on my '82 Corolla for two 10" electric fans that cover over 90% of the radiator. It ONLY heats up when the AC is on. I was told i needed a shroud. Is it true? Any help will be appreciated.

The engine is pretty much stock except its missing all the EGR stuff

Ok so temperature is fine with A/C off?
Does it overheat whilst driving or only when stopped?
Does the ac control any of the fans?
Are the fans thermostatically controlled or running all the time (bad).
Do you have a sump guard fitted?
Theres a possibility the fans are not flowing enough air, or that the hot air is recirculating back around which is where a shroud should help. If you have any big air gaps in the radiator panel or between the radiator and the rad panel then hot air can recirculate around it when you're parked. Also cold air that would normally go through the radiator when you're driving can bypass the radiator if theres big gaps near it.

You have verified that your water pump is not seeping thru the weep hole?

You have taken a compression test to verify head gasket is not leaking?

You have replaced your thermostat?

You have flushed your block to make sure your cooling passages are clear of restrictions?

You have flushed your radiator?

If none of these conditions exist, then follow the advice about your fan shroud.
