82 TE72 auto to manual

Post by dw86rolla »

A few questions. I have an 82 wagon with a 3tc and auto trans. I've been wanting to manual swap it, but yesterday my rear main popped so bad I can't drive the car anymore. Literally pours oil out through the bell housing once it makes good psi. Will the trans off a 4AC Ae86 work? I'm asking this one specific because I found a good cheap one local but I don't want to waste money. And if so, what do I do about a bell housing, clutch, flywheel, etc ?

I would say fix the main until you get everything for the swap. Trans,flywheel,clutch,master/slave,driveshaft,pedals - don't forget bracket...

I daily a pretty reliable s13 (I know lol) so I have this car garaged. It's my fun car I guess. Basically I don't want to pull an auto trans to fix another issue and put it back in when I plan to take it out to manual swap anyway. But would that transmission I listed work? From a 4AC car?

Thanks so if I find a bell housing I could use that trans? And good heads up on the speedo, even though I'll probably be building a cluster without one.

Tranny cross members are different on both cars so are engines 1.6 and 1.8 revolutions plus torque converters might be different .try rebuilding your original at shops in your area
