Te27 Ball Joints

Post by 72te27 »

Anyone have experience replacing ball joints on stamped control arms? My Toyota Chassis book says just replace the whole arm, but ball joints are relatively cheap. Can they be replaced using standard techniques with deforming the arm?

I took an extra pair of control arms to be powder coated then after they were done straight to the local mechanic shop to have the new ball joints installed.

The only ball joints I can find are the Beck-Arnley or 555 brands from Rockauto, E-bay or Autozone. Is that what you used? Not sure if they are one in the same. Is that what you used?

yes I did it to my te27 control arms, To remove the ball joint, remove the retaining clip and place the control arm on a vise. use a socket on the ball joint and with 2-3 solid hits it will come out.
To install leave new ball joint in freezer overnite, then install them the same way.
