So i bought a 3tc and its missing a couple parts hoping maybe someone might have. I do have a spare 3kc that im willing to trade parts for. but would prefer to just pay. i need an alternator bracket and what i was told is the transmission dust shield or scatter shield? its a little plate that has a loop where your starter mounts up. wondering if the one from my 3k would work? Located in WA, US

FYI, 2 different trans plates for the 3tc. 80 is small starter and 81/82 is big starter. Motor doesnt matter but trans does, has to match your bell housing.

well the motor i bought says its a 80. would that mean i might have gotten the wrong starter or do i just have to get the correct backing plate and tranny to match?

If it.is an original 80 motor it uses the little starter and if it is an 82 motor it uses thd big starter. 79 to 82 same motor just different starter

well i got the starter off rockauto and i selected the 1980 1.8L so hopefully its correct. it seemed like a pretty large starter to me but im use to seeing my little 3kc starter so i dont know the size comparison.

Do you have the trans?
Starter bolts to trans, not engine, year of motor doesnt matter.
What year corolla is it?

i do not have the trans. i have large starter already so i bought the larger scatter shield and ill have to buy trans to suit is what im understanding. its a 1977 ke30 but im putting a 3tc in it. so will a t40 still work with the large starter setup?

T40 or T50 but a 2tc trans would be preferable due to shifter location. 71-74 uses a different starter but the large starter plate fits. 75-79 uses the small starter. If I were you, i would return the starter and wait til you had the trans. Large 3tc starter fits 81/82 but 82 uses a larger output spline and will be difficult to source a drive shaft with the correct length and replacing the yoke is not an option because they are non serviceable type. Or you could swap bell housings but that is still the hard way of doing things.
