Help identifying my modded suspension setup (pics)
My 1980 TE72 has modified rear suspension. The leaf springs were taken out in favor of coil springs but I don't know where they're form because they're so old and dirty that any identifying markers are gone. The shocks are Monroe part number 32126 which after research I found were used in many domestic and import cars of the 60's-80's. On Toyota's they were meant for Mark II, Coronas, Cressidas and Land Cruisers. Would anyone know what would be the likely spring on the rear, or a popular conversion? That would be a helpful start for me.
I want to lower the car and I'd have to do it by cutting the springs but I want to make sure that I could buy new ones if I want to go back to the way it was. Also the rubber seats are worn out so I want to buy new ones after I cut the springs. I haven't yet looked at the front suspension setup so I'll see if maybe the springs are cleaner and I can take a look for a part number since it's possible that all four springs are from the same setup.

They all kind of look the same. Is it an 8 bolt or 10 bolt? 8 bolt corolla or gts 10 celica......................... Wait!..................... You have a te72 with leaf springs? Are you sure about that? I might be wrong but I have never seen leafs on a toyota 1980 +. So you probably have a stock suspension. What year is it?
Re: Help identifying my modded suspension setup (pics)
You may be right, I thought KE70/TE72 came with leaf springs in the back, my car is 1980. I have the Haynes manual that says all earlier cars had leaf springs and later cars had coil springs. I'll check the number of bolts on the diff cover and see how many it has.

I checked and the cover is 8 bolt. I also took the springs off and the spring insulator has part number E8DC-5414-AB. I can't find this part number on the internet so it's probably discontinued a long time ago. The closest thing I could find is SM5414 which are spring insulators for Ford Taurus and Mercury Sables.

Re: Help identifying my modded suspension setup (pics)
1980 and newer all* use coil springs... It is a nice thing... because it allows you to use many of the AE86 performance suspension options....
Here I'm fitting an AE86 GTS rear, HTS112(designed for the AE86) shocks, and a AE86 GTS rear sway bar....
* - not sure about the wagon models....

I just need to know what springs I can use in case I want to go back to stock height. Also wanted to know if I could use the energy suspension bushings kit (part number 182010) which is specific to AE86 to replace the suspension bushings which are brittle and worn out.

Seconded, my wagon has leaf springs. Something about being able to handle heavy loads (like tons of groceries) better. On the upside, drop blocks are an option, on the downside, they're pretty much the only option unless you want to get something made custom.BOBLOOK wrote:
