T50 tail shaft question

Post by toyorotor »

Can the tail shaft end of an early T50 trans be swapped on a later T50? I want to keep the same shifter location

T50 you have 20 splines (early) or 22 (late).

Ok, but our the housings the same? is that rear bolt pattern the same? Everyone always swaps the front bell housing but I haven't found anything on the rear.

Is because the tail doesn't contain the shaft itself

Yes I did it to make the shifter 4" more forward. You have to change the shift rods and speedometer gear also.

Would love to see that write up but the site won't let me view it. I have a close ratio t-50 but the shifter is in the wrong location for my console in my te27 .

Great write up tojo,
I found a similar one on japanesenostalgic. but its pretty much the same as yours....
its pretty easy to do, Just take your time and Don't lose any of the little balls that are in the trans.
And TAKE OUT THE RODS in the order they say!!!! I cracked the housing on the Scrap transmission cause
I was rushing it trying to take out rods.
